86,185 Hot Meals Served in 2018

The food service count for the number of hot meals served by Albany Helping Hands for 2018 was slightly down (-1.7%) from 2017, 122 meals less per month. The 2018 totals were 9.3%, well above the 2016 totals.

The count of 86,185 hot meals served in 2018 equates to 7,182 meals a month average for the year.

Graph 1: The chart to the left illustrates the Annual Rolling Monthly average (solid black line). The month to month data is shown as red dots (data points for each months count).

From January through December 2017 the need increased to an average of 7,338 monthly meals in January and 7,306 in February.

Since March the average monthly meal count (12 month rolling)  has averaged 7210 meals. 

The trend  (solid black line) has been  relatively flat, with a small  "ripple"  ranging from 7163 to 7242 meals monthly.

This statistic is the total for a rolling 12 month period. The latest housing census report noted 36,418 bed-nights provided over the twelve month period from January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018.

After trending up to record highs in 2017, the need for housing remains high with the trend flattening out with an almost full shelter.

Data Content Key:    

  • Column 1 - Month Reported

  • Column 2- Monthly Meals. Total Meals served for reporting month

  • Column 3- 12 Month Rolling Total. Total number of meals served over previous 12 month period ending on last day of reporting month. For example, 83,228 meals for period August 1 2016 to July 31, 2017.

  • Column 4- 12 Month Rolling monthly average. The monthly average for the 12 month rolling period (above). The 83,228 meals annually, divided by 12 is an average meals served per month, 6,936

  • Column 5- 6 Month Rolling Total. Total number of meals served over previous 6 month period ending on last day of reporting month. For example, 43,2918 meals for period February 1, 2017 to July 31, 2017.

  • Column 6 - 6 Month Rolling monthly average. The monthly average for the 6 month rolling period (above) is 7,215.

  • Column 7- 3 Month Rolling Total. Total number of meals served over previous 3 month period ending on last day of reporting month. For example, 21,170 meals for period May 1, 2017 to July 31, 2017.

  • Column 8- 3 Month Rolling monthly average. The monthly average for the 3 month rolling period.

Color Coding Key:

Column 2 (Monthly Meal Count). Bar graph relative to reported count.

Column 3 - 8 (Rolling Averages) Each column of data is coded by color according to the rolling (12 month, 6 month, 3 month) count.

Lowest to highest are: green, light green, yellow, orange, red, and dark red.  

For example, in the Average Annual Rolling column we see data for January 2017 we see green, reflecting the lower level. By January 2018 we see the red coded key, noting the high meal counts for those months.
