The Statistics: Hot Meals Served & Bed Nights Provided

2018 Trend:  Increased Need Continues

 The analytic Annual Meals Served is shown as a vertical blue bar with it's scale to the left ranging from 71,000 to 89,000 meals per year.   The Bed Night totals are illustrated by the dotted red line.  The scale is on the right side of the graph ranging from 28,000 to 38,000 bed nights per year. The need for housing and food services remains high for the first half of 2018.  After trending up to record highs in 2017, the need for housing remains high with the trend flattening out.

Meanwhile, after  similar upward trend in 2017 for the need of hot meals, the meal count dipped in March and has remained flat.

The latest report for July 2018 showed over 7 thousand meals served (7,035) for the month. Similar to April, May and June meal service counts.

So far in the first two quarters of 2028 the number of meals served is slightly down versus the same period in 2017 but ahead of the 2016 quarterly totals.  The latest quarter statistics show the meal count down about 100 meals per month versus 2017 but significantly more than the 2016 April to June period by approxamitly 1000 meals per month.

In July 2015 6452 hot meals were served. In a month to month comparison the count was up 30 in 2016 and 42 meals in 2017 to 6528 meals served. Note that the JUly 2018 count of 7035 was up significanly versus the month of July in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

365 Day (Annual) Rolling Total

Since the peak in January of 88,051 meals served the hot food need has decreased slightly  with 86,894 hot meals served for the rolling twelve month period (August 1 2017 through July 31, 2018).

Data Content Key:    

  • Column 1 - Month Reported
  • Column 2- Monthly Meals. Total Meals served for reporting month
  • Column 3- 12 Month Rolling Total.  Total number of meals served over previous 12 month period ending on last day of reporting month.  For example, 83,228 meals for period August 1 2016 to July 31, 2017.
  • Column 4- 12 Month Rolling monthly average.  The monthly average for the 12 month rolling period (above). The 83,228 meals annually, divided by 12 is an average meals served per month, 6,936
  • Column 5-  6 Month Rolling Total.  Total number of meals served over previous 6 month period ending on last day of reporting month.  For example, 43,2918 meals for period February 1,  2017 to July 31, 2017.
  • Column 6 - 6 Month Rolling monthly average.  The monthly average for the 6 month rolling period (above) is 7,215. 
  • Column 7-  3 Month Rolling Total.  Total number of meals served over previous 3 month period ending on last day of reporting month.  For example, 21,170 meals for period May 1,  2017 to July 31, 2017.
  • Column 8-  3 Month Rolling monthly average.  The monthly average for the 3 month rolling period.

Color Coding Key:

Each column of data is coded by color according to the monthly count total. Lowest to highest are: green, light green, yellow, orange, red, and dark red.  For example, in the monthly Meals column we see data from October 2015 to January 2016 we see orange and red key, noting the high meal counts for those months.  Likewise from April 2016 to September 2016 we see greens and light green, indicating the dip in the number of meals served.

For example:  February 2018 data reports 87,674 meals served during the period March 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018.
