Thank you to the businesses, organizations and individuals who participated in the Sixth Annual Albany Helping Hands Bridge of Hope Dinner Auction.
This years annual spring event took place on Thursday, April 28th, 2016.
Once again this year we utilized the facilities at the Linn County Expo Center in Albany, Oregon..
Record Totals Raised
John Donovan, Development Director for Albany Helping Hands, an eighteen-year-old 501 (c) 3 non-profit, independent faith-based organization stated "This year's event was a big success with proceeds well ahead of last year's total".
John has been with the shelter from the early days providing volunteer services as day manager at the old church location at First and Main.
Donovan stated further, "The funds from this annual dinner-auction composed one of the key components to our revenue".
A Record amount of over $52,500 was raised at the event with cash contributions up over 70% from 2015.
The first auction held in 1999 yielded $1,600 in proceeds.
Other major projects or business entities that contribute significant revenue are the Christmas Tree and Holiday Wreath Lots, the Home of the Holidays Radiothon/ Donor Mail Campaign., Thrift store sales and Woodlot income.
Record Attendance over 210!
Returning to act as the events Master of Ceremonies was Will Tucker, Linn County Commissioner who acted as the events auctioneer.
The event began with the Silent Auction at 5:00 pm followed by dinner catered by Jacopetti's. This year there were over 160 silent auction items up for bid.
A short dinner program started with a prayer and message by Albany Helping Hands Board President / Shelter Chaplain Jim Sapp.
Volunteer and Guest Awards
Board Vice President/ Development Director John Donovan made a special presentation to Jodie Jones, daughter of Joann Jones.
This special recognition noted Joann Jones long time service as a volunteer at AHH.
Donovan also honored soon to be retiring Executive Director of Albany Helping Hands, Dan Kress.
"Spirit of Pastor Bailey Award", Volunteer of the Year 2016
Donovan also recognized the recipient of the Pastor Bailey Volunteer of the Year “Spirit of Pastor Bailey Award” Meagan Good, a Pastor at Albany Mennonite Church.
With Pastor Good out of the country, the award was accepted by Larry Eby from the church.
Guest of the Year 2016 the "Pastor Bill Lane" Award
Marcus Frizzell was awarded the Pastor Bill Lane Guest of the Year accolade.
Announcement of Future Expansion
Following the special awards and recognitions, Mike Davis, Albany Helping Hands board member, made a short presentation about the feasibility of the expansion of Helping Hands housing.
This expansion would be in the form of approximately 60 new transitional apartments which will be located on the lots behind Albany Helping Hands on the west side of the shelter property on Southeast Ninth Avenue.
Displayed at the dinner were three architectural concept drawings and a satellite map of the proposed housing project (see below).
2017 Event at the Country Club
Next year’s event is scheduled the same time, the last Thursday April. So mark your calendars for April 27, 2017 for the 7th annual Bridge of Hope Dinner Auction.
We are expanding the setup for 2017 with the venue set at the Linn County Expo Center in Albany, OR.
