Plants4Kids Joint Fundraising Project

Albany Helping Hands in conjunction with selected Albany area schools present the third annual fundraising tradition, Plants4Kids™ with the organizations partnering to raise funds for the local schools and Albany Helping Hands.

The fund raising project involves Albany Helping Hands growing tomato and pepper plant starts which will be made available to the students at the participating schools for resale.  Helping Hands will charge $1.00 per plant start (wholesale) with the participating Albany students selling the plan starts at $2.00 (retail price), for a $1.00 profit per plant.  The first two projects raised over $6160.00 for the organizations.

The plants are grown in our greenhouses at the Albany Helping Hands Garden Market and Farm located ¼ mile east of Coastal Farm and Ranch on Highway 20. Participating students will sell Plants4Kids™ “Plant Redemption Certificates” to customers to exchange for plant starts, eliminating the need for transportation of the plants to the schools for distribution.

The plant starts will be ready to be picked up by customers who will present the Plants4Kids™ Certificates at the Albany Helping Hands Garden Market or the Albany Helping Hands Thrift Store during business hours from May 25th through June 26th, 2016. The sales by students will span Monday, April 11th through Friday, April 29th, 2016.

Profits from the Plants4Kids™ project help provide local work for Albany Helping Hands Shelter Guests, and help fund the Shelter, Soup Kitchen, Thrift Store, Garden Market, Wood Lot, Christmas Tree Lots and Chicken Ranch.

Albany Helping Hands also provides three meals a day all year long, over 80,000 meals annually to homeless, low income and those in in need in our community. Everyone is welcome, even those not registered with the shelter.
